Horsmonden Farmers’ market takes place every other Friday in the
beautiful Kent village of Horsmonden. In the summer it is held on
the village green and in the winter months it moves to the village
hall. It is open from 9am until 12 noon. Most of our stall holders
come from within 30 miles of the village. It is run on a voluntary
basis by three local mums – Liz Taylor, Pippa Ankjaer and Mary Moffat.
Our Aims:
- To enable local farmers to sell their produce to local people,
keeping down ‘food miles’ and giving customers direct contact
with the farmer/producer.
- To give customers a wide range of fresh local produce in the
village.
- To increase the customer base for local shops and businesses.
- To reduce the environmental impact of local shopping.
- To provide a fund raising opportunity for local and community
groups and charities.
Local charity/community opportunities
At each market the refreshment stall is taken over by a local
charity or community group. All profits they receive from the stall
on the day are for their group. On average the refreshment stall
makes between £50 and £100.
We would welcome new groups to run the refreshment stall on an ad
hoc basis. Any queries should be directed to Pippa Ankjaer on
01892 725528.
Craft stalls
Although Horsmonden Farmers’ market is primarily a produce market
we do regularly have guest craft stalls including jewellery, greetings
cards, candles etc. We would welcome approaches from any local business
interested in a stall at the market. Any queries should be directed
to Mary Moffat on 01892 722528.
